Dr. Donald Layman, PhD

Dr. Layman is Professor Emeritus of Nutrition in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has numerous awards and recognitions, including awards from the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the National Institutes of Health, and the Nutrition and Metabolism Society. Dr. Layman has close to 100 publications, as well as several patents in the field and is considered the “Father of Modern Human Metabolic Theory”.

Dr. Layman is considered one of the world’s leading authorities on metabolic health, muscle metabolism, essential amino acids, including L-leucine, and their role in the muscle health (mass, strength & flexibility) and its contribution to overall health, functional capacity and lifespan (longevity).
